U.S. Open 2012 Tennis Scores: Maria Sharapova Cruises

Maria Sharapova won in the first-round of the 2012 U.S. Open with ease, advancing in straight sets over Hungarian Melinda Czink.

Sharapova needed just one hour and seven minutes to defeat Cznik, 6-2, 6-2.

Needless to say, Sharapova dominated the match, smashing five aces to Cznik's one. Sharapova also hit 24 winners to Cznik's eight, showcasing her dominance in the first round matchup.

Sharapova hasn't advanced past the third round since she won the U.S. Open in 2006. Sharapova was eliminated in the third round in 2011, and will almost certainly surpass that this year.

Sharapova will take on Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the second round. Dominguez Lino defeated Sesil Karatantcheva 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the second-round matchup against Sharapova.
