U.S. Open Tennis Results 2012: Favorites Shine In Wednesday's Action

Wednesday's action at the 2012 U.S. Open concluded with No. 3 seed Andy Murray defeating the unranked Ivan Dodig in three straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3. It was a good day all around for the top seeds as Victoria Azarenka, No. 1 in the women's singles draw, defeated Kirsten Flipkens. Third-seeded Maria Sharapova beat Lourdes Dominguez Lino, and No. 4 seed David Ferrer beat Kevin Anderson.

Local representatives at the U.S. Open did well for the day, with Tampa resident and top-seeded American John Isner advancing in the men's singles bracket with a win over Xavier Malisse. Serena and Venus Williams, both residents of Palm Beach Gardens, advanced in the women's doubles draw by beating Lindsay Lee-Waters and Megan Moulton-Levy. Ft. Lauderdale's Sloane Stephens also advanced in the women's doubles bracket, as she and Rajeev Ram beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Horia Tecau. Not all of the local representatives are so lucky, as Tampa resident James Blake and his partner Sam Querrey were eliminated from the men's doubles draw.
