The Florida Atlantic Owls open the 2012 season on Friday night at home against the Wagner Seahawks at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. The Owls finished a disappointing 1-11 in 2011, their lone win coming against the UAB Blazers on Nov. 26, 2011. The Owls have a new coach this year in Carl Pelini, older brother of Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini, who previously worked as the defensive coordinator for Nebraska.
The Seahawks, a Championship Subdivision team based out of Staten Island, N.Y., finished 2011 with a 4-7 record, 4-4 in the Northeast Conference. They finished 2011 on a three game winning streak. Walt Hameline is entering his 32nd year coaching the Seahawks. He has a career head coaching record of 204-123-2 (.623 winning percentage).
