U.S. Open Tennis Results 2012: Andy Roddick Delays Retirement With A Win

Andy Roddick may be retiring following the U.S. Open, but his tournament continued on Friday with a victory in straight sets over Bernard Tomic. Some of the top-ranked players had a good day: No. 4 seed David Ferrer advanced with a victory over Igor Sijsling, top-seeded woman Victoria Azarenka beat Jie Zheng and No. 3 seed Maria Sharapova advanced with a win over Mallory Burdette.

There are several local players in the U.S. Open. John Isner, a resident of Tampa, moved into the third round with a victory over Jarkko Nieminen. Jesse Levine of Boca Raton moved into the third round of the men's doubles draw, as he and partner Marinko Matosevic defeated Frederik Nielsen and Jonathan Marray. Venus and Serena Williams, residents of Palm Beach Gardens, defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Klaudia Jans-Ignacik to advance in the women's doubles draw.
