Sailing competitions at the 2012 London Games have begun, and a pair of Americans had a rough going in the Star class medal race, as Mark Medelblatt and Brain Fatih finished sixth in the championship race and seventh in the overall competition.
The stacked field was led by Sweden's Fredrik Loof and Max Salminen who took the gold in the event with a time of 32:21 over Great Britain's Andrew Simpson and Iain Percy who had to settle for silver after finishing the medal race in ninth place. Medelblatt and Fatih finished 32 seconds behind the victorious Sweedish duo.
Many sailers talked about the London wind patterns being rough causing for a more difficult race than usual.
