Team USA finished a disappointing 15th out of 20 teams in the Men's 49er sailing even in London. The Final race was held today, only held for the top 10 teams in the standings of the 49er event. The gold medal was won by the Australian team of Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen. The New Zeland team of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke won silver and the Denmark team of Allan Norregaard and Peter Lang claimed the Bronze.
Naples, Fla. resident Trevor Moore was the crewman on the team led by skipper Erik Storck. After starting the competition out with a sixth place finish, the US team struggled and finished tenth and sixteenth in the next two races. After winning race four and placing seventh in race five, the US team had three finishes in the bottom half of the standings. This also included two races where they placed eighteenth and twentieth. The US team did manage two more top five finishes, but they were negated by four finishes seventeenth or worse in the last six races.
