The Jacksonville Jaguars have their new head coach, but the first major step of a new coach is finding the right player with that first-round draft pick. So, who will Gus Bradley be targeting in April with the No. 2 pick? Mel Kiper came out with his first mock draft of the year on Wednesday and does not see any quarterbacks worthy of a top-eight selection. In this case, he thinks that the defensive coach will go for a defensive player, Damontre Moore of Texas A&M:
Meanwhile, I've had a pass-rusher as a top need for this franchise going on four years. Moore is an exceptionally productive defensive end prospect with very good quickness, long arms and elite closing burst as a rusher. The Jags should be a better team in 2013, but it's not just based on whether they get better at quarterback.
The Jags did not have a single player register even four sacks in 2012. Will Moore be the answer? NFL Draft Scout rates Moore as the second-best defensive end prospect in this years draft. This season for the Aggies, Moore had 80 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 20 tackles for a loss, and 2 blocked kicks. He could be an elite force in the NFL for a very long time with numbers like that.
If the Jaguars elect not to take him, it would be hard to see him falling much further down the board.
