Cordarrelle Patterson caught five touchdown passes in his first and only season with the Volunteers.

In his rookie season with the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Ryan Tannehill provided the franchise with some hope that he could be the player they had in mind when they selected him with the eighth overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft. What needs to be provided in return, though, are some weapons for the young passer to work with.

In the first mock draft of the offseason from CBS Sports' Will Brinson, he projects the Dolphins to take the first wide receiver off the board: Cordarrelle Patterson of Tennessee.

12. Miami Dolphins -- Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee -- Patterson might lack in experience, but he's simply a terrifying weapon in multiple phases of the game for whoever ends up landing him. Potential for change here if the Fins decide to go big on a wideout(s) in free agency.

In his first and only season with the Tennessee Volunteers, Patterson was a first team All-SEC selection as he accumulated 46 receptions for 778 yards with five touchdowns. Not everyone agrees that he's the best receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft though, as SB Nation's Dan Kadar ranks California's Keenan Allen as the cream of the receiver crop.

Kadar also projected Allen to be the first round selection for the Dolphins in his latest mock draft.

Damontre Moore tallied 12.5 sacks in his final season with the Aggies.

The consensus top need for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2013 offseason is for the team to find viable options in a secondary that finished as the NFL's worst at defending the pass. However, in the event that Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner is off the board when the Buccaneers are on the clock for pick No. 13, not many believe the second-best cornerback would be worth the selection.

In the first mock draft of the season from CBS Sports' Will Brinson, the Buccaneers are instead projected to upgrade a pass rush that finished with the third-fewest sacks in the NFL by taking Texas A&M pass rusher Damontre Moore.

Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner recorded 13 sacks during the 2012 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the NFL's worst pass rush in 2012, recording just 20 sacks. The team's top pass rusher was defensive tackle Tyson Alualu who led the team with an uninspiring 3.5 sacks, making defensive line improvements a top priority in the offseason.

In the first mock draft of the season from CBS Sports' Will Brinson, the Jaguars go that route by taking Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner with the second-overall selection:

2. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Bjoern Werner, DE, FSU -- The combo of Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley definitely has me projecting the highest-impact pass rusher on the board, and that's Werner, the German-born Seminoles product, who, along with Jason Babin, could reinvigorate the Jags pass rush in 2013.

Brinson says he is selecting "the highest-impact pass rusher" for the Jaguars, but not many can agree on which player that is. While considered to be a deep draft along the defensive line, there is no Jadeveon Clowney-type player that is the consensus top prospect.

In the latest mock draft from SB Nation's Dan Kadar, he projected a similar strategy for the Jaguars, although he didn't agree that Werner was the guy for the job. Instead Kadar projected that LSU Tigers defensive end Barkevious Mingo would be the second-overall pick and had Werner slotted to go eight selections later to the Tennessee Titans.

The Dolphins selected Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen in the latest SB Nation mock draft.

With a rookie quarterback during the 2012 season, the Dolphins finished the season 7-9 and had the NFL's No. 27 offense. While there's plenty of optimism surrounding the rookie campaign of Ryan Tannehill, the consensus is that the team needs to add receiving talent around the young passer.

In many mock drafts, there is a belief that the draft does not have a receiving talent worth the No. 12 selection; however, in the latest joint mock draft from SB Nation's Dan Kadar and Matthew Fairburn, the first selection for the Dolphins was used to take the top rated receiver in the draft: California wide receiver Keenan Allen.

We're back to where we started with the Dolphins. When we started putting out 2013 mocks, Allen was the popular choice for the Dolphins. It's easy to forget about Allen. He missed Cal's final three games and his college quarterback was abysmal. Allen is the best receiver in the draft this year. He's a competitive outside target who can often win jump ball situations.

Brian Hartline led the Dolphins in receiving in 2012 with 74 receptions for 1,083 yards and one touchdown. Davone Bess also racked up a lot of yardage, finishing the year with 61 receptions and 778 yards, but also found the end zone just once.

In his junior season, Allen finished with 61 receptions, 737 yards and six touchdowns, a large step back from his 1,343 yards receiving during his sophomore season.

The Jaguars select Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei in the latest SB Nation mock draft.

The Jaguars have struggled to find consistent contributors along the defensive line for the better part of a decade, including several big draft misses. While the most notable draft whiffs came in the team's pursuit of a pass rush with players like Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves, the team hasn't been particularly good at finding a defensive tackle either.

This is a pick that's been gone over myriad times. By now you know the words like it's "Call Me Maybe," or whatever Florida kids sing. Terrance Knighton is an impending free agent, Tyson Alualu has been a disappointment and C.J. Mosley is better as a backup. Lotulelei is among the best players in this draft, despite pedestrian stats during his career. His power at the line of scrimmage will make him an immediate starter wherever he goes.

Just one year after finishing the 2011 season with the NFL's No. 6 defense, the Jaguars regressed significantly and finished No. 30. While they finished with the fewest sacks in the league at 20, the Jaguars were also bad against the run, allowing the third most rushing yardage in the NFL.

In his senior season, Lotulelei racked up 10 tackles for loss and five sacks for the Utes defense.

Warren Sapp played nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and helped the team win Super Bowl XXXVII.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will name its Class of 2013 on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET and among the nominees is former Miami Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

Of the 15 modern-era nominees, only five can be enshrined, while the two senior nominees, Curley Culp and Dave Robinson can be elected as well to create a maximum class of seven inductees. To be inducted a nominee must receive at least 80 percent approval from the selection committee.

Sapp, 40, was a two-time All-American at Miami (Fla.) before he was selected with the No. 12 overall selection in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. He played nine seasons with the team, including a win in Super Bowl XXXVII, before he joined the Oakland Raiders in 2004. He retired after 13 seasons in the NFL in which he made seven Pro Bowls and was a four-time All-Pro.

Also nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame are receivers Tim Brown and Cris Carter. Brown played several seasons with the Raiders before joining the Buccaneers in the tail end of his career, while Carter joined the Miami Dolphins after 11 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

While the Jaguars and Dolphins made surprise selections in SB Nation's latest mock draft, the Buccaneers stuck with the usual.

Mock drafts have already started to become repetitive for the Jaguars and Dolphins, as the majority have the two teams selecting defensive linemen and wide receivers, respectively. However, things looked a little different in the latest mock draft from SB Nation, although things remaining the same for the Buccaneers.

More coverage: Senior Bowl hub | East-West Shrine Game | NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

The Jaguars are in need of a defensive make-over, but also have a big need at quarterback and have already said they will bring in more talent to compete with Blaine Gabbert. With Geno Smith off the board at first overall in many mocks, though, the Jaguars have been without a quarterback to take with their first round pick. Such wasn't the case in Dan Kadar and Matthew Fairburn's mock, where Luke Joeckel went first:

2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia

The Jaguars have needs across the board. With new general manager David Caldwell and a new head coach in Gus Bradley, Jacksonville is in the midst of a total reset. The team has a ton of needs, but it would still be tough to pass up on the top quarterback prospect available.

The Dolphins have been slated by most to select a wide receiver with their first pick, whether that's Keenan Allen, Cordarrelle Patterson or Tavon Austin, but Kadar and Fairburn instead gave them a value selection on the other side of the ball:

12. Miami Dolphins - Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon - Scouting Report

...Dion Jordan is a big time talent that doesn't normally make it out of the top 10 picks. His shoulder injury will cause him to slide, but Jordan has a combination of pass rush and cover skills that NFL teams will love.

The selection of a cornerback for the Buccaneers has become commonplace after the team finished last in passing defense. With Dee Milliner of Alabama off the board in the majority of mock drafts by the No. 13 pick, the Buccaneers have instead been slated in about half of the Internet's mock drafts to take Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks:

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State

...Johnthan Banks would be a big talent upgrade at cornerback. He has the skill to be a No. 1 corner with size and good anticipation ability. Banks and Johnson could make for a good duo for years to come.

The Magic may be parting with J.J. Redick, while the Dolphins will look to hang on to Reggie Bush.

To supplement your holiday hangover, here's the latest sports news from the Sunshine State:

Rumor: Timberwolves are "big fans" of J.J. Redick in trade market, according to report

According to Wolfson, Minnesota will need to offer Orlando more than Derrick Williams, the second-overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, if it hopes to pry Redick from the Magic.

Dolphins Looking to Re-Sign Reggie Bush

The Dolphins will look to increase Lamar Miller's role next season, and an offense with both Miller and Bush could be a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses. But if Bush is asking for more than the Dolphins are willing to pay, Miami will simply move on with Miller as the feature back.

LeBron James named Eastern Conference Player of the Week yet again

This marks the 40th time James has earned Player of the Week accolades in his career, the most times a player has earned the honors in NBA history. It also marks the 42nd time in franchise history a Heat player has earned Player of the Week honors and the 14th time James has earned the honor as a member of the Heat.

Jaguars make more roster moves than they score points at home

The Jaguars have made more roster transactions (95) than they have scored points at home at EverBank Field in 2012 (94 points).

Miami Marlins sign John Maine to a minor league contract

By giving Maine a minor league contract and an invitation to Spring Training, the Marlins are not exactly making a huge commitment to him. The chances of John Maine being out of baseball by the time the season starts are higher than you might think. However, if Maine can stay healthy and return to his old self, Miami could have something special. The Marlins are giving John Maine an opportunity in spring training to prove to them, and the rest of Major League Baseball, that Maine still has a future in the majors.
