Six Florida Gators have been named to Phil Steele's 2012 Midseason All-American Team, reports GatorZone. Running back Mike Gillislee and safety Matt Elam made the first team selections, while special teams standouts kicker Caleb Sturgis and punter Kyle Christy were named to the second team. Defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd and offensive lineman Jon Halapio were both named to the fourth team.
Gillislee has been a workhorse for the Gators, and is currently the No. 3 ranked rusher in the SEC, averaging 109.6 yards per game. He's coming off a two touchdown performance against LSU that kept the Gators offense in control. Elam also put in a great performance against LSU, picking up seven tackles and a forced fumble that kept LSU from taking the lead late in the third quarter.
Sturgis is 8-for-10 on field goal attempts this season, and Christy is first in the SEC with a 46.5-yard punt average, including pinning opponents inside the 20 nine times.
