There were plenty of meaningful college football games across the state of Florida on Saturday, including contests with conference and, possibly national, title implications.
The rivalry game between the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles topped the list, with the Gators needing a win and a Notre Dame loss to jump into the BCS Championship Game discussion. Florida held up its end of the deal, using a huge fourth quarter to defeat the Seminoles, 37-26. However, Notre Dame got past USC later in the day, dashing the Gators' title hopes.
Elsewhere, the Miami Hurricanes outlasted the Duke Blue Devils in a 52-45 shootout to gain a share of the ACC's Coastal Division title. Unfortunately for the 'Canes, they'll be staying home during the postseason due to an NCAA investigation that may result in serious sanctions. Instead, Georgia Tech will represent the Coastal Division in the conference championship game in Charlotte, N.C.
The Central Florida Knights won't be robbed of the opportunity to play for a championship, as their 49-24 victory over the UAB Blazers gave them the Conference USA East Division title, putting the Knights in the conference championship game against Tulsa next weekend.
Other scores:
Cincinnati Bearcats 27, South Florida Bulls 10
Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 23, Florida International Golden Panthers 17
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 24, Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 14
