Florida Vs. Auburn: Gators Offense Nonexistent In 17-6 Loss To Tigers

Once again, mistakes and missed opportunities cost the now-reeling Florida Gators football team. The Gators (4-3, 2-3 SEC) turned the ball over three times and muffed two punts against the 24th-ranked Auburn Tigers (5-2, 3-1), resulting in a 17-6 defeat Saturday night to the defending national champions at Jordan-Hare Stadium

Florida mustered just 194 yards of offense against Auburn, and managed to even top their offensive ineptitude of the past two games, 38-10 and 41-11 losses to Alabama and LSU in which they at least scored one touchdown in each game. The only Gators points Saturday night against Auburn came from the leg of Caleb Sturgis.

Things are so bad at quarterback after senior John Brantley's injury that three Gators threw passes today: starter Jacob Brissett, fellow freshman Jeff Driskel and even fullback Trey Burton. As the score would indicate, none had success.

Auburn did not run the ball over, and was slightly less pathetic on offense than the Gators, actually managing to score two touchdowns, one a first quarter pass from Barrett Trotter to DeAngelo Benton, and the second an Onterio McCalebb 14 yard fourth quarter camper that was the nail in the coffin for the Gators.

Florida has next week off before facing Georgia in the event no longer called "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." Perhaps by then Charlie Weis can duct tape together an offense capable of scoring at least one touchdown per game.
