Florida Gators vs. Florida State Seminoles: No Matter the Records, It's a Big Game

New, 1 comment

The Gators and Noles renew their grudge match in Gainesville on Saturday.

The records do not matter. Neither do the injuries or current win streaks or headlines during the week. On Saturday, the Gators and the Noles renew their 53 year rivalry with another war.

Florida State ended Urban Meyer's dominance of the Noles with a definitive 31-7 last season. Meyer would retire after the season.

Before that loss, Florida won seven of the last nine meetings, five straight.

Despite the Gators' recent dominance (Florida leads the series 33-20-2), there have been so many memorable moments in this series - the game transcends any other series these schools play.

There was Tebow's finale, when Super Tim accounted for five touchdowns in his final game at the Swamp.

Already fired Ron Zook saw his Gators topple the 8th ranked Noles.

There was the Choak at Doak, the Swindle in the Swamp and #1 versus #2. There was the re-match in the Sugar Bowl where Steve Spurrier won his first National Championship.

There were the fights - pre-game and post game.

The amazing offensive players to play in this game like FSU's Charlie Ward and Warrick Dunn. Florida's Emmitt Smith, Ike Hillard and Danny Wuerffel.

You had defensive players like Derrick Brooks, Peter Boulware and Deion Sanders. Florida countered with Kevin Carter, Jevon Kearse and Scott Brantley.

So many great players, so many classic games.

What will 2011 give us? Can Will Muschamp redeem this lost season for the Gators or will Jimbo Fisher keep his record perfect against the Gators?

Needless to say, it will be one heck of grudge match.
