College Football Recruiting: Damien Jacobs Commits To Florida, Spurns Tennessee

Damien Jacobs, among the top JUCO defensive tackle prospects in the nation, stunned the Tennessee Volunteers on Wednesday when he reversed his commitment to them and elected to sign with the Florida Gators instead. The Gators announced the commitment on their athletics website. According to the press release, Jacobs tallied 47 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries for the East Mississippi Community College Lions.

"Jacobs blossomed into one of the better JUCO defensive tackles in the country during his time at EMCC," Bud Elliott of SB Nation writes. He later offers this assessment of Jacobs' skills:

Jacobs' skill set is similar to that of Leon Orr coming out of high school. He's a big body, capable of creating havoc, but needs to be more consistent.

Jacobs' commitment brings Florida's recruiting tally to 18. The University says he will enroll in January "and participate in all spring football activities."
