Though Kenny Boynton injured his left ankle Sunday against UCLA, the Florida guard is expected to suit up when the Gators take on Jimmer Fredette and the BYU Cougars in Thursday night’s Sweet Sixteen game. Florida coach Billy Donovan told the media as much Monday afternoon. Containing the swelling in Boynton’s ankle was his biggest concern.
Donovan addressed the ankle injury further:
"We fully expect him to play. He’s not going to do anything today in practice. He definitely has some discomfort there, but I don’t feel like it’s discomfort that’s going to prevent him from playing."
Boynton, a sophomore, is a crucial member of this Gators squad. He ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 14 points per game this season. Additionally, he may need to contribute on the other end of the floor, as he may draw the assignment of defending Fredette. He did so last season when Florida lost to BYU in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, in which Fredette scored 37 points.
