While few games can match last night's Ohio State-Gators matchup in terms of early season importance, there is still plenty of NCAA basketball action happening in the state of Florida. Tonight's schedule of events features two matchups: the Florida State Seminoles vs. the Stetson Hatters, and the USF Bulls vs. the Florida Southern Moccasins.
FSU vs. Stetson
The Seminoles cracked the first college basketball rankings of the year, rating out at #24 in the AP Poll and #25 in the Coaches Poll. They likely will not last in the polls all season long, but right now at least, they are a top 25 team until they prove differently.
Tonight's game will be at home at the Donald L. Tucker Center (Tallahassee, FL) against Stetson, an unranked team from the Atlantic Sun Conference. Stetson has started the season 2-0, but their prospects aren't necessarily bright this season; they went 8-23 last season and 7-22 the season before, and they have given up 55 turnovers through their first two games. The Seminoles' defense should be able to take full advantage tonight.
USF vs. Florida Southern
This is an odd matchup. The USF Bulls are technically the home team, but they have to travel 33 miles to play against the Moccasins tonight due to the renovations at the Sun Dome. Also, Florida Southern is a Division-II team, and D-I and D-II teams normally only face off in exhibition matchups. But again, the Sun Dome renovations have thrown everything out of whack for the Bulls this season, so they are facing the Moccasins in a regular-season game tonight. This game will be the third of the season for the Bulls (2-0), and it will be the season opener for Florida Southern.
