After 20 minutes of play at the Lakeland Center, the USF Bulls lead the Florida Southern Mocs 33-16. Augustus Gilchrist is just off the pace for a triple-double, going for 7 PTS/4 REB/4 BLK in the first half. LaVonte Dority, Blake Nash, and Victor Rudd each have 6 points for the Bulls, while Ron Anderson Jr. has a team high 7 rebounds so far. Cameron Vines leads the Mocs in scoring with 5 points.
The Bulls length was going to pose a problem for the much smaller Mocs, and it has shown. Florida Southern is shooting only 18.4% from the field and is 1-11 from behind the arc. The Bulls also have a significant 25-19 rebounding edge over FSC.
The two things that have plagued USF over the years have been turnovers and free throw percentage, and it has come back to bite the Bulls again tonight. The Bulls are only 5-9 from the charity stripe, and they have already committed 8 turnovers tonight after only giving up 10 in Monday's game against Marist. It should be noted that none of the turnovers have been charged to point guards Dority and Nash.
If there is something to keep an eye on in the 2nd half its both team's foul situation. Shaun Noriega and Anderson Jr. each have two fouls for the Bulls while FSC has four players saddled with 2 fouls.
