NCAA Basketball Rankings: Seminoles Drop Out Of Top 25

After a tough week that features losses to both Harvard and UConn, the Florida State Seminoles have dropped out of the AP Top 25 poll for the first time this season.

For the first time this season, the Florida State Seminoles have dropped out of the AP Top 25 college hoops rankings. While their team is still strong and hasn't had any major injuries, their performance this past week was in equal parts disappointing and poor luck.

The Seminoles started off the week strong, beating the Massachusetts Minutemen handily 73-53 on Wednesday and controlling the whole game. This was an improvement over their game from the week before against Stetson, where FSU fells behind early and allowed the Hatters to remain in the game until late. Their defense -- the foundation of their squad, and the reason they got ranked in the Top 25 to begin with -- had looked shaky in that game, and those issues resurfaced in their final two games last week.

Facing off against Harvard in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, the Seminoles couldn't quite hold the lead and lost in a hard-fought game 46-41. They then faced the #4 UConn Huskies in the loser's bracket of the tournament, and the Huskies overpowered their defense and won 78-76. These two losses dropped the 'Noles to 5-2, and it was enough for voters to drop them from #22 to unranked.

Who could have guessed that the Seminoles would face one of the best teams in the nation in a consolation game in the Battle 4 Atlantis, while Harvard would take home the tournament crown over UCF? Talk about a backwards, topsy-turvy  world.
