According to reports early Sunday night, the Florida State Seminoles will travel across the state to play in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. The game is played at the Citrus Bowl stadium, and is scheduled for Thursday, December 29th. CBS Sports first reported the bowl matchup.
Reports indicated that the Seminoles will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a clash of two historical powerhouse programs. Both teams had disappointing 2011 seasons, finishing short of expectations with 8-4 records. The Irish finished their season with a 28-14 loss to Stanford, while FSU enters the game coming off a win over rival Florida. The game typically features ACC and Big East schools, but as is typically the case, the bowl committee has the flexibility to select the the independent and sought after Irish.
Joe Tessitore, Rod Gilmore, and Holly Rowe will call the game for ESPN.
