Florida State vs. Virginia Tech: Seminoles Aim To Stay Tied For ACC Lead

The Seminoles are a half game behind North Carolina in the ACC standings. Can they keep pace with the Tar Heels with a home victory over Virginia Tech Thursday night.

The Florida State Seminoles, winners of eight of their last nine games, welcome the Virginia Tech Hokies to Tucker Center tonight, a rematch of a game on Jan. 10 in Blacksburg, VA where the Seminoles withstood a Hokie rally to win 63-59. That win catapulted the Seminoles to their conference success, which include victories over Duke and North Carolina.

The Seminoles will need a good night defending to defeat the Hokies. They currently lead the ACC in field goal defense allowing a mere 37.5 percent of shots made this season. Couple that with guard Michael Snaer's 13.8 points per game and forward Bernard James averaging 10.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, the Seminoles should have enough offense to get past the Hokies.

Virginia Tech guards Erick Green and Dorenzo Hudson, averaging 15.5 and 11.2 points per game respectively, can take over a game if allowed to. Forward Dorian Finney-Smith has shown remarkable ball awareness as a freshman averaging 7.1 rebounds per game. If the Seminoles can render those three players ineffective, Florida State should stay tied atop the ACC by the end of the night.
