The Florida State Seminoles are ranked seventh in the Associated Press college preseason college football Top 25 list, the highest ranking of any high-major college football program in the state of Florida and in the ACC conference. The Seminoles were ranked 11th in the Sports Illustrated Top 25.
The USC Trojans topped the AP list followed by Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon and Georgia. The Seminoles were ranked ahead of Michigan, South Carolina and Arkansas in the top 10.
Florida State is returning 17 starters from the 2011 campaign that saw the Seminoles finish with a 9-4 record (5-3 in the ACC) and receive an invite to play in the Champs Sports Bowl against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The Seminoles defeated the Irish by a final score of 18-14.
