Florida State prevailed 21-15 over Georgia Tech in the ACC title game on Saturday night, punching its ticket to the Orange Bowl. The Seminoles finished with a 7-1 league record and won the Atlantic Division thanks to their victory over Clemson in September; the Tigers also finished 7-1.
Georgia Tech won its division with some help from the NCAA. North Carolina is ineligible for postseason play because of NCAA sanctions, and that includes the ACC title game. Miami self-imposed a postseason ban ahead of impending sanctions. The Jackets' loss in the ACC Championship pushed their record below .500, but they received a waiver from the NCAA that allows them to play in a bowl game anyway. They will be heading to the Sun Bowl to face Southern Cal.
Six ACC teams earned bowl bids this season, including Duke, which is headed to the postseason for the first time since the 1990s. Virginia Tech, N.C. State and Clemson will also play in bowl games.
The final ACC standings are below, and you can also check out the complete 2012 bowl schedule.
