The Jacksonville Jaguars will sign free agent running back Keith Toston later today, according to a report from Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.
Toston was with the Jaguars during training camp and turned some impressive performances during Jacksonville's first two preseason games. Toston rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries before injuring his hamstring. Toston was waived when Maurice Jones-Drew was activated following his 38-day holdout during Jaguars training camp.
With Maurice Jones-Drew out for multiple games due to a strained foot, Toston will be a capable backup to Rashad Jennings and Jalen Parmele until Jones-Drew is able to make a complete recovery.
Toston signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2010 after playing with Oklahoma State in college. Toston rushed for 54 yards on 19 carries while also recording two receptions for 29 yards. While at Oklahoma State, Toston rushed for 2,725 yards and 27 touchdowns and was named First Team All-Big XII in 2009.
It is unknown at this time who will be cut to make room for Toston on the roster.
