Lions vs. Jaguars score update: Defenses reign supreme early in scoreless tie

After a first quarter that featured a lot of defense, both teams remain scoreless in the Week 9 matchup between the Jaguars and Lions at EverBank Field.

While the Lions received the opening kickoff, both teams were forced to punt on their opening possessions. On his first punt of the game Jaguars rookie punter Bryan Anger boomed a 73-yard punt that pinned the Lions inside their own 10-yard line.

The Lions, though, were aided by a questionable call that came after Paul Posluszny didn't hear a whistle and hit Matt Stafford after a delay-of-game penalty. The drive stalled, though, and the Lions were forced to settle for a 47-yard field goal from Jason Hanson that was no good as it hit off the left upright.

The Jaguars couldn't take advantage of the field position and were forced to give Anger his second punting opportunity of the game that he also landed inside the 10-yard line. The Lions had no problem driving the field, though, and will begin the second quarter with the ball in Jaguars territory.
