Jaguars claim Jonathan Grimes off waivers

Jacksonville added some running back depth Friday by claiming Jonathan Grimes off waivers.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed running back Jonathan Grimes off waivers from the Houston Texans on Friday. Grimes had been placed on waivers by Houston earlier in the week.

Jacksonville is Grimes' third team this season. The rookie out of William & Mary has appeared in a total of nine games between the Texans and New York Jets and has two carries for six yards, as well as a pair of receptions. Jacksonville will be without Maurice Jones-Drew once again this week, so Grimes will give the team some additional depth if he is active for the Jaguars' game against New England. It would also be the third time Grimes has seen the Patriots this year.

Additionally, Jacksonville still needs to make a decision about linebacker Daryl Smith, who may be ready to return from a stint on the injured reserve. Grimes brings the roster to 53, so the team would have to cut a player in order to make room for Smith.
