Jack Del Rio Fired, Jaguars Owner Plays Coy

According to a report from Chris Mortensen, the Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Jack Del Rio. Del Rio has been the coach of the Jaguars for the past nine and a half seasons, but has had limited success in leading his team to the playoffs. In fact, the Jaguars only made the playoffs once during his tenure, and their overall record under him was 68-71.

This move is far from unexpected. The Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver issued an ultimatum at the beginning of the season to Del Rio -- make the playoffs or else -- and the Jaguars are currently 3-8 and already out of the playoff hunt. But the timing of this move is a little humorous, given that Weaver had this to say just yesterday:

Weaver declined to say Monday why he seems reluctant to make a change during the season.

↵

Weaver's only comment, through a team spokesman, was repeating the statement that he made after the loss on Sunday: "That's for another day."

↵

And by another day, Weaver apparently meant....tomorrow. For Jaguars fans, though, this move came a few years too late.
