A few days ago reports emerged that Fred Smith would be buying a minority share of the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to the team, and via our Jaguars blog Big Cat Country, that report is simply not true and Wayne Weaver does not have any interest in selling the team. Reaction from the team blog after the jump.
The team has denied reports in the past of Weaver selling the franchise. Weaver himself denied the rumor when asked by ESPN'S Chris Mortensen and Florida Times-Union columnist Gene Frenette when asked. Weaver has long said that there will come a time when he will sell the franchise, but he has also maintained it would be to someone committed to keeping the franchise in Jacksonville.
That last part is the most important, because it seems important that the current owners want to put new owners in place that are committed to keeping the team in Jacksonville, if and when they decide to sell.
