The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be big players in free agency during the 2012 NFL offseason, but they have 16 free agents of their own they'll need to consider taking care of. The team has 11 unrestricted free agents and 5 restricted free agents, but there's only a handful of players the team will make a real effort to hold on to.
Unrestricted Free Agents:
- Jeremy Mincey, Matt Roth, Rashean Mathis, Dwight Lowery, Josh Scobee, Nick Harris, C.C. Brown, David Jones, Guy Whimper, Luke McCown, and C.J. Mosley
From this group the Jaguars will likely pursue defensive end Jeremy Mincey, kicker Josh Scobee, safety Dwight Lowery, and cornerback Rashean Mathis. The team will attempt to come to new deals with each of these players before the NFL free agency period begins. Defensive end Jeremy Mincey might be the toughest to sign from this group, as he's already stated that he will not take a "hometown discount." Mincey is coming off a career year and will likely make a big push to cash in on a contract.
Restricted Free Agents:
- Leger Douzable, Courtney Greene, William Middleton, Russell Allen, William Robinson
From this group of players, the Jaguars will likely place tenders on defensive lineman Leger Douzable, defensive back William Middleton, and linebacker Russell Allen. All three players saw significant playing time due to injuries on the Jaguars defense. Middleton worked his way to be a fill-in starter for a few games before going down for the year with a knee injury and played very well. Allen filled in as a starting linebacker when Clint Session went down for the season and Douzable proved his versatility on the defensive line playing both defensive tackle and defensive end at an acceptable level.
