2012 NFL Free Agency: Jaguars, Josh Scobee Have 'Significant Gap' In Negotiations

One of the biggest free agents who could bolt from the Jaguars this offseason is, surprisingly enough, kicker Josh Scobee. He and his agent have been trying to work out a new contract with Jacksonville, but according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, there is still a sizable gap in the negotiations.

Contract talks between the Jaguars and kicker Josh Scobee's agent have progressed. The sides have exchanged contract proposals, but there is still a significant gap between what each side wants. Scobee will be an unrestricted free agent when the market opens on March 13 at 4 p.m. unless the Jaguars re-sign him to a long-term deal or apply the franchise tag. That date is two weeks later than free agency has started in the past.

The Jaguars could easily franchise Scobee, and the figure for a kicker would not be very high, but I'm sure they would prefer to leave that option open for another one of their free agents if they can and sign Scobee to a long term deal. It still seems like that a deal is not quite on the horizon.
