While the interest was there to bring Tim Tebow back to the state where he was a college superstar, those ideas went up in smoke. The former Gator quarterback was traded to the New York Jets for a fourth round draft pick on Wednesday afternoon.
The trade for Tebow puts him behind incumbent starter Mark Sanchez, who just signed a three-year, $40.5 million extension two weeks ago. The Jets also recently signed former Detroit Lion Drew Stanton and have former Alabama quarterback Greg McIlroy on the roster as well. The Jets are planning on using Tebow as a change of pace player that could run the wildcat package.
The Jaguars had expressed some possible interest in bringing Tebow back to Florida, but they are obviously committed to Blaine Gabbert as their future option at the quarterback position.
