Mike Mularkey Impressed With Blaine Gabbert's Grasp Of Jaguars Offense

Blaine Gabbert's rookie year was a struggle, so much so that national media couldn't resist linking the team to every decent available quarterback until they signed elsewhere. The Jags, understandably, had no interest in writing off a young player with just under one season's worth of starting experience.

The Jaguars are installing a new offense this offseason, and early reports on Gabbert's progress have been positive. Head coach Mike Mularkey spoke on Thursday about Gabbert's confidence and grasp of the new offense.

"You know that by when you call the play you step right in the huddle and call the play," Mularkey said. "I haven't been around a lot of quarterbacks the first time you introduce a brand new offense that can walk in the huddle and call the play with the impression that ‘I know it so well that it's going to work' with that kind of mentality. That has been outstanding on his part."

Between this and previous praise of Gabbert's improved footwork, the Jaguars' quarterback will be expected to improve significantly on his rookie campaign.
