Austen Lane Injury: Jacksonville Jaguars DE Still A Few Weeks Away

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Saturday that defensive end Austen Lane, who's out with a foot injury, "is a few weeks away" from returning to action.

Jacksonville's depth at defensive end is dwindling quickly, as Aaron Morgan and George Selvie went down in Thursday night's preseason loss against Baltimore. Mularkey said Selvie will miss several weeks with a knee sprain.

Those injuries will give others on the Jaguars' roster a chance to step up, and Mularkey was pleased with the effort of one player in particular.

"Corvey Irvin, without doing any reps outside of defensive end, played a lot of snaps for us in the game," Mularkey said. "Basically he moved out there for us in the fourth quarter. I thought he did an outstanding job [having] not played the position and being effective out there and really not being drained."

Irvin, a third-year player out of Georgia, plays mostly defensive tackle and is better suited for that position, but he'll have to be versatile in the coming weeks. Rookie Andre Branch and 28-year-old Jonathan Mincey are two of the remaining legitimate options at DE for Jacksonville.
