Jaguars Scrimmage: Blaine Gabbert Solid, Mike Mularkey Pleased With Offense

The first scrimmage under lights at EverBank Field is in the books for the Jaguars and second-year starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert had an impressive showing. Gabbert and the offense were in rhythm, and the QB hit almost all of his throws in the limited opportunity scrimmage setting. He finished 10 of 13 for 91 yards and touchdown and after the scrimmage, he spoke about the offense:

"Yeah we started clicking. We got in a rhythm right there. Hit some big runs. Rashad and the O-Line did a great job again especially on the check downs when they were dropping in coverage. The receivers took their coverage deep and opened some stuff up underneath. But yeah we started clicking, getting in that rhythm, started flowing and moved the ball pretty well."

In a red-zone situational setup, Gabbert led the offense to five straight touchdowns. One nitpick some had with his impressive night was that many of the completions were on check-downs. But head coach Mike Mularkey said he was not bothered by that check-downs at all, and that Gabbert was making the right decisions within the offense:

"I think he had a good night. Again, I am not quick to judge because I like to really dissect it when I watch the film. I just felt like out here that he had a good night. He made some nice throws. He had a nice throw down on the first drive to Cecil (Shorts) and we've got to make some plays like that. When you stick the ball in like that you've got to make those plays. I was pleased with Blaine."
