Jacksonville Jaguars' running back Montell Owens will not play in the team's preseason finale Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons due to swelling and stiffness in his knee, according to a report on the Jaguars' official team site.
"We're going to hold him back," Jacksonville head coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday. "Just some stiffness In his knee and we're going to hold him out. There's no reason to risk it in this game."
With starting running back Maurice Jones-Drew still in the midst of a holdout, Owens was the team's top backup behind Rashad Jennings. In three games this preseason, the 5'10", 225-pound back carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards and scored one touchdown. He did not record a carry in Jacksonville's third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
