Speaking to the media following a training camp practice on Tuesday, Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey revealed that the foot injury sustained by Austen Lane was worse than initially thought and that the defensive end will miss some significant time, including the first preseason game against the Giants on Friday.

Expected to be out three weeks, the likelihood of Lane participating in the following two preseason games also seems unlikely.
This throws a wrench in the plans of the third-year defensive end to win a training camp battle against rookie defensive end Andre Branch for a starting spot opposite Jeremy Mincey. Branch will now likely get the start for the Jaguars in the place of Lane and will have a leg up in the battle.
