Jacksonville wide receiver Cecil Shorts made a strong case for more snaps in the Jaguars' season-opening loss to Minnesota, as he led the team with 74 yards receiving. Head coach Mike Mularkey says Shorts has been making the most of his opportunities:
Just the time that he's gotten the chance to play that he's gotten, he really tries to make every opportunity the best it can be. Jerry Sullivan has been a big influence on him. I think he takes coaching extremely well. He wants to do good and he's made some big plays.

Shorts, who is in his second NFL season, appeared in 10 games for Jacksonville in 2011 and caught two passes for 30 yards. He has already doubled that reception total in 2012.
