Dolphins vs. Jets 2012 odds: Miami a slight underdog

The Jets are expected to win this game, though not by much.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Dolphins are underdogs to the New York Jets this week, though oddsmakers expect a close game. The Jets opened as three-point favorites, but that margin has gotten smaller since then, and the Jets are currently just one-point favorites at several sportsbooks.

The Dolphins have won their last two games, which has them back at .500, and they had an extra week to prepare for the Jets thanks to a Week 7 bye. The Jets are coming off a close loss to the Patriots last weekend, but a win over Miami would allow them to leapfrog the Dolphins in the AFC East standings.

Miami ranks 21st in the NFL in total offense and 22nd in scoring. The Jets are just No. 29 in total offense but No. 18 in scoring. On the other side of the ball, the Dolphins are No. 20 in total defense and No. 8 in points allowed per game. New York ranks 19th in total defense and 21st in points allowed per game.
