NFL playoff picture 2012: Dolphins hanging on to hope

However unlikely it may be, the Miami Dolphins still have a chance to make the playoffs this season. How can they do it with their current 6-8 record?

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins are currently 6-8 on the season with games against the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots remaining on their schedule. Despite the long odds in front of them, they still have a chance of earning a wild card spot and making the playoffs.

What the Dolphins need to have happen is for the Cincinnati Bengals to lose their last two games and for the Pittsburgh Steelers to lose one game. The Bengals and the Steelers play each other on Sunday so the Dolphins would need the Steelers to win against the Bengals but lose their last game against the Cleveland Browns. Even if that happens, it will be moot if the Dolphins don't win against the Bills and Patriots first.

The Dolphins play the Bills on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium. Kickoff for that game is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
