First Quarter Update: Eagles Vs. Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins began the game on defense the way they needed to: relentlessly attacking QB Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles offense. LB Jason Taylor sacked Vick twice in the first quarter, moving into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time sack list with 138.5. The Eagles managed a first down on their first possession, but the Dolphins forced a punt attempt. On the punt attempt, CB Jimmy Wilson came in from the outside and blocked the punt and the Dolphins recovered the ball on the Eagles’ 15 yard line.

RB Reggie Bush began the ensuing possession by running for a five yard gain, but QB Matt Moore was sacked on the next play by LB Brian Rolle. On third down, WR Brandon Marshall beat CB Nnamdi Asomugha on a corner route to the back corner of the end zone and caught the pass from Moore for a touchdown.

The Dolphins continued their assault on the Eagles offensive line, particularly DE Jared Odrick. Odrick had a batted pass at the line of scrimmage and the defensive line kept Eagles RB LeSean McCoy in check on the ground. S Tyrone Culver also defended a pass.
After a holding penalty by the Eagles on their punt, the Dolphins were set up near field goal range. Two RB Daniel Thomas rushes and an incomplete pass to Marshall set up a 55-yard field goal attempt for K Dan Carpenter, which was wide left.

The Eagles ended the quarter by driving the ball into Dolphins territory.

Score: Dolphins 7, Eagles 0
