Third Quarter Update: Eagles Vs. Dolphins

The Dolphins came out of the locker room at halftime looking to close the gap on the Eagles' 17-point lead. The Eagles were able to prevent RB Reggie Bush from converting a third down by tackling him just short of the first down mark on a dump off pass. The Eagles followed the three-and-out by driving down the field, but CB Sean Smith intercepted a QB Michael Vick pass intended for TE Brent Celek. It was Smith's second interception of the season.

The offense, which has struggled to move the ball much all day, was unable to take advantage of the turnover and punted the ball after another three-and-out. P Brandon Fields was able to stick the ball at the Eagles 3 yard line, where the Dolphins defense seemed to get their groove back. RB LeSean McCoy was stopped on first down for a 1-yard gain and Vick threw two more incomplete passes and was pressured by the Dolphins defensive line, which was able to once again penetrate the Eagles offensive line.

Bush was able to take the first play from scrimmage for a 12 yard run up the middle, which he followed with a 17 yard run up the middle. On first and goal, Bush ran behind the left guard for a five yard gain, setting the Dolphins up on second down on the Eagles 2-yard line. On second down, QB Matt Moore threw the ball out of bounds and on third down, RB Daniel Thomas ran the ball up the middle for a 2-yard loss. On fourth down, K Dan Carpenter kicked a field goal to bring the Dolphins within two scores.

The Eagles took over at their own 20 yard line. DE Randy Starks nearly sacked Vick, but Vick was able to escape and found WR Riley Cooper for a 29-yard gain. The Eagles' drive stalled and were forced to punt. The Dolphins took over at their own 13 yard line. On second down, LB Brian Rolle rushed through the middle of the Dolphins offensive line hit Moore in the ribs. Moore was forced to sit and backup QB J.P. Losman came in and completed a pass to TE Anthony Fasano for a first down. Bush flowed that with a 12 yard rush for another first down. Bush carried the ball up the middle for an 8-yard gain, when time in the third quarter expired.

Score: Eagles 24, Dolphins 10
