Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 54. Wayne Moore

A Pro Bowl left tackle, Wayne Moore appeared in 98 games, starting 66 over his nine year Dolphins career.

Wayne Moore was a 6'6" offensive tackle for the Lamar Cardinals. He was signed as a 25-year old free agent by the Dolphins offensive line coach, Monte Clark, after he was placed on waivers by the San Francisco 49ers.

In Moore's official rookie season of 1970, the Dolphins would finish 10-4, making their first ever postseason appearance. Moore appeared in all 14 games in relief, as the Csonka/Kiick/Morris led rushing attack finished with 2,082 yards, the most in the AFC.

Moore was limited by injuries for the next two seasons, appearing in one game in 1971 and in nine games of the Dolphins perfect 1972 season.

1973 would see Moore come into his own, starting 15 of 16 games at the left tackle position (including the playoffs) as Miami joined the Green Bay Packers as the only teams to win consecutive Super Bowls. The rushing attack finished with an impressive 2,521 yards, and Moore was selected to play in the Pro Bowl after the season.

Moore would miss the first 11 games of the 1974 season, returning to start the final three games for the stretch run, all victories as Miami posted an 11-3 record before getting dumped by the Oakland Raiders in the first round.

The Dolphins finished 10-4 in 1975, but missed the playoffs. Moore started every game at left tackle for Miami, helping the WFL depleted rushing attack to 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Moore again started every game in 1976 at left tackle, as the Dolphins stumbled to a 6-8 record. It was the first time in Don Shula's coaching career that one of his teams finished below .500, and the last time until 1988.

In 1977, Moore continued his lock on left tackle as the Dolphins returned to relevance with a 10-4 record, again missing the postseason.

The season was extended to 16 games beginning with the 1978 season, and Moore appeared in each of them, starting nine before retiring following the season.

Moore found post NFL employment as a salesman for a construction company. He passed away in August of 1989 of a heart attack, aged 44 years.
