Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 72. Bob Heinz

Bob Heinz was Miami's starting right defensive tackle for the No-Name defense that went a combined 55-10-1 from 1971 through 1974.

Bob Heinz was a 6'6" defensive lineman from Pacific University. He was chosen with the Dolphins second round draft selection of the 1969 AFL/NFL entry draft, 37th overall, and would wear the number 72 jersey for the Dolphins throughout his Miami career.

Heinz would appear in all 28 Miami games through the 1969 and 1970 seasons off the bench at whatever defensive line position he was needed at. The Dolphins went 3-10-1 in 1969, then 10-4 in Don Shula's first season as coach in the newly expanded NFL in 1970.

In 1971, Heinz started seven of 14 games at right defensive tackle, as the No-Name Defense dominated opposing offenses, limiting them to an NFL third best 12.8 points per game. The team won the AFC Title before losing Super Bowl VI to the Dallas Cowboys, 24-3.

1972 would see the Dolphins post an overall 17-0 record, the No-Namers leading the NFL with 171 points allowed and with 3,297 total yards allowed, or 12.2 points and 235.5 yards per game. Heinz was the starting right defensive tackle for the No-Names, starting eight of 11 games in the Dolphins historic run.

Heinz started 13 of 14 games for Miami during their second consecutive NFL Championship run in 1973. The defense continued to dominate, leading the NFL with 150 total points allowed (10.8 per game), 3.7 yards per offensive play, and an NFL low five touchdown passes allowed.

1974 would see Miami again return to the playoffs with an 11-3 record. Heinz started 13 of 14 games for the Dolphins, continuing to anchor the right side of the defensive line.

Heinz missed 1975 due to injury, and started four of 28 games for Miami in 1976 and 1977 before joining the Washington Redskins for two games in 1978.

According to Wikipedia.org, Heinz is now a sales manager at Branders.com.
