2012 NFL Draft Results: Dolphins Select Hurricane Olivier Vernon With No. 72 Pick

After adding two cornerstone pieces on the offensive side of the ball in the 1st and 2nd round, the Miami Dolphins went to the defensive side of the ball and selected Olivier Vernon with the No. 72 pick overall and ninth in the 3rd round. Vernon is a local product who played for Al Golden and the Hurricanes. He is considered a solid 4-3 defensive end rusher who will add to the Dolphins rush off the edge in the AFC East. Vernon came out early without a lot of experience or tape on him, but he is still the first Hurricane to be drafted .

The Dolphins got their quarterback of the future in Ryan Tannehill at No. 8 overall and added Jonathan Martin at No. 42 overall. The Fins will follow up this pick with their second 3rd round selection of the evening, possessing back-to-back picks in the round after acquiring the No. 73 pick from the Panthers through the Bears.
