The Miami Dolphins came to terms on a contract with their third round pick Michael Egnew on Wednesday afternoon. The specifications of his rookie deal were not disclosed. Both Egnew and Olivier Vernon inked their rookie deals on Wednesday, leaving only first-round pick Ryan Tannehill unsigned.
Egnew was a standout tight end at Missouri and is expected to compete right away for playing time with Anthony Fasano and Charles Clay. New coach Joe Philbin is expected to use his tight ends often so getting Egnew into camp on time and getting reps in advance of the preseason became a priority.
Tannehill is now one of five Round 1 picks still unsigned. The financial terms are pretty much locked in -- a four-year deal worth around $12.6 million -- but like Trent Richardson with Cleveland this week, the final obstacle is agreeing on offset language.
