Dolphins Training Camp: Loser Of Veteran Quarterback Battle Could Be Released

Despite not reporting to training camp on time, Ryan Tannehill has since signed his rookie contract and done well during his time at camp. While still very early in his camp time, Tannehill has earned snaps with the first team offense and has reportedly shown off the arm strength and accuracy that made him worth a top 10 selection in the NFL Draft.

With Tannehill's promising signs are wonderful news for the Dolphins and Dolphins fans, it's not necessarily the greatest news for Matt Moore and David Garrard. The pair of veterans are in a battle for the starting quarterback position and with Tannehill making a push to be part of the conversation, the loser of the veteran QB battle could be released by the team.

In a training camp update, Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post discussed Tannehill's impact on the job security of Garrard and Moore.

While all three quarterbacks will be given a chance to win the job, it's not a given that all three quarterbacks will be on the roster for Week 1. While the likeliest scenario has Tannehill serving in the No. 3 role this year, a league source with knowledge of the Dolphins' front office said the Dolphins have considered every contingency at quarterback, and one of them is carrying Tannehill as the No. 2 quarterback if he plays well enough in the preseason and proves that he could handle himself this year if called upon to play.
