Dolphins Training Camp: Quarterback Competition 'Very Close'

Ryan Tannehill may get his chance to be the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback after all this season. During a Monday morning appearance on NFL AM, the NFL Network's morning show, head coach Joe Philbin described his team's quarterback competition as "very close."

Said Philbin:

"We're really pleased, number one, from a talent standpoint we've got excellent candidates at that position. They all possess a strong arm, they've displayed good accuracy at times. They have good mobility in the pocket."

Tannehill, the Dolphins' first-round pick this year, was buried behind David Garrard and Matt Moore. The rookie then jumped out to a strong training camp effort that has changed the dynamic of the team's quarterback picture. Working in Tannehill's favor is a familiarity with Mike Sherman's offense.

The Dolphins open the preseason on Friday with a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tannehill will get another chance in that game to make his case.
