Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino told fans they needed to be patient with rookie starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Marino spoke at a Dolphins Touchdown Club event Tuesday, and pointed to Tannehill's youth and the long road ahead for the Dolphins rebuilding project.
"Be patient," Marino said, according to the Palm Beach Post. "You look around the NFL and things don't just turn around overnight. Be patient with this group, and hopefully the young quarterback works out great for us."
Marino praised the decision to name Tannehill as the starter.
"They’re in a rebuilding phase right now, and I like the idea of starting a young quarterback right away," he said.
As for advice for Tannehill, Marino suggested that the rookie learn to have a "short memory."
"If you have some bad games, forget about it, play with a lot of confidence," Marino said. Obviously they all believe in him because they picked him and he’s the starting quarterback. I would tell him, just go out there and turn it loose."
