2012 NBA standings: Heat occupy No. 2 spot in Eastern Conference, Magic at No. 9

With more than a quarter of the NBA season complete, the Miami Heat lead the Southeast Division and trail only the Knicks in the Eastern Conference standings.

More than a quarter through the NBA's 2012-13 schedule, the Miami Heat are holding strongly to the second position in the Eastern Conference, 1.5 games behind the New York Knicks, but equal to the Knicks in the loss column, having played three less games thus far in the year.

The Orlando Magic are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in if the season were to end today, occupying the No. 9 spot in the conference, one game behind the current No. 8 Boston Celtics.

The Atlanta Hawks are chasing the Heat in the Southeast Division, sitting just 1.5 games back, and four games ahead of the Magic in the five-team division.
