Miami vs. Virginia Tech 2012 odds: Hurricanes open as slight underdog

Oddsmakers expect the Hokies to pull off the win this weekend.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Hurricanes opened as 2-point underdogs to the Virginia Tech Hokies this week. That line has shifted to the Hokies by 2.5 points at some sportsbooks.

Miami comes into the week having lost three straight games, though the Hurricanes are still in the mix for the ACC's Coastal Division title. They're currently tied for first with Duke and North Carolina with a 3-2 league record. (The Tar Heels are ineligible for the ACC championship because of NCAA sanctions.)

The Hokies are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in league play, and they're coming off a loss to Clemson. The Hokies would control their own destiny in the Coastal with a win over the Hurricanes.

Miami is ranked 57th nationally in total offense so far this season and 26th in passing yardage per game. The defense, however, is just 116th in total yards allowed per game. Virginia Tech comes in ranked 64th in total offense and 49th in total defense.
