Miami Hurricanes athletics director Shawn Eichorst has resigned, according to a report from ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Eichorst is expected to replace Tom Osborne as the next athletics director at the University of Nebraska. Eichorst has not yet commented on the matter.
Eichorst became Miami's director of athletics in April of 2011. Prior to that, he served as deputy athletics director at the University of Wisconsin. He has also worked in athletics administration for South Carolina and Wisconsin-Whitewater, which is his alma mater.
Allegations regarding NCAA violations within the Miami athletics department surfaced not long after Eichorst took the job, and the university is currently waiting on a notice of allegations from the NCAA. The NCAA's investigation could lead to major sanctions against Miami's football program.
Osborne announced his intent to retire in September, and his tenure as Nebraska's AD comes to an end on Jan. 1. He'll remained involved in the workings of the department through next July.
