Miami vs. Notre Dame 2012 odds: Hurricanes double-digit underdogs

The Hurricanes are not expected to win in South Bend this weekend.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Miami Hurricanes are underdogs heading into their matchup with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this weekend. Notre Dame opened as an 11.5-point favorite, and that line has shifted to Notre Dame by 13 or 13.5 at various sportsbooks.

The Irish are off to a 4-0 start, with wins over Navy, Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan. The Irish rank just 95th nationally in total offense, but they're 15th in total defense and third in scoring defense, as opponents are averaging just nine points per game.

Miami is 4-1 overall and coming off a 44-37 win over N.C. State. The Hurricanes rank 15th in passing yardage per game with an average of more than 328 yards. Quarterback Stephen Morris threw for 566 yards in the win over the Wolfpack and has thrown for at least 200 yards in every game this season. But while the Hurricanes rank 35th in total offense, they're a woeful 114th in total defense.
